First look at Netflix’s animated adaptation of Roald Dahl’s THE TWITS

Netflix has shared a first look at its upcoming animated film adaptation of Roald Dahl’S The idiots. The film comes from the director Phil Johnstonwho previously ran Disney Zootropolis AND Destroy it Ralph. It was also announced that the film would be released on Netflix in 2025.

The film is described as “A hysterically fun and wild movie (packed full of the Twits’ beloved tricks, from Wormy Spaghetti to Dreaded Shrinks), The Twits is also a story for our times, about never-ending the battle between cruelty and empathy.

The story follows “Mr. and Mrs. Twit, the nastiest, smelliest, most evil people in the world who also own and operate the most disgusting, dangerous, and idiotic amusement park in the world, Twitlandia. But when the Dirty Ones rise to power in their city, two brave orphans and a family of magical animals are forced to become as cunning as the Dirty Ones to save the city.

Johnston said in a statement: “I have always been drawn to reprehensible characters. I don’t know what this says about me and I don’t want to investigate. The point is, The Twits was my favorite book when I was a kid. I love Imbeciles and their terrible tricks.”

He added: “I like the fact that they lack self-awareness, personal hygiene and any hint of human decency. And I love this movie because it reminds us that idiots like the Dirty Ones, whose default emotions are anger and revenge, cannot be allowed to win in our world.

Johnston also co-wrote the film with Meg Favreau and it was co-directed by Katie Shanahan and Todd Demong. The film’s animation was created by Brixton-based studio Jellyfish Pictures (The boss kid, the bad boys).
