Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning part one featuring a thrilling adventure that resulted in the death of a character from the franchise. I was pretty disappointed with this character’s death, but there was a reason for that.
Director Christopher McCarrie recently spoke about the character’s death and explained why it had to happen. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, you may not want to read any further.
Rebecca FergusonIlsa Faust’s badass character met her end in the film when she was killed for real during a fight with Gabriel (Esai Morales). This scene was meant to once again highlight how those close to Ethan suffer the consequences of his actions. McQuarrie told USA Today:
“[It was] a really tough decision. But it was what we knew we had to accomplish for the film to have stakes and for the film to remain Mission. The mission is mostly Ethan’s journey (and) there’s this continuum that the people closest to him, he tends to lose them. It was a really complicated conversation for us, and we knew there were going to be reactions, but we also knew this is the reality of the world that’s been created over seven movies.”
It’s safe to say that Ilsa is dead and will not come back to life. I really loved her character and while she sucks to see her go, I understand that her death is important to the story. Tom Cruise and McQuarrie decided to tell it.
I am thrilled to see this story continue Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning part twowhose release is currently scheduled for June 28, 2024.
