Trailer of the Netflix series PAINKILLERS by Matthew Broderick and Peter Berg about the opioid crisis in America

Netflix has shared the first trailer for its upcoming series Painkiller, which is a scripted series about the origins of America’s opioid crisis. The film comes from the director Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Hancock, Battleship, Lone Survivor, Deepwater HorizonAND Patriots Day) and start Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller’s day off).

Over the course of six episodes, the series explores “some of the origins and aftermath of America’s opioid crisis, highlighting the stories of the perpetrators, victims and truth-seekers whose lives were forever altered by the invention of the known drug.” like OxyContin An examination of crime, accountability, and the systems that have repeatedly failed hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Berg explains that it is an origin story of the “collision between medicine and money that allowed it to happen. One of the many things I thought was missing [from the conversation] was the introduction of the drug into traditional medicine. Like Arthur Sackler, this psychiatrist… specializing in lobotomies, he began to realize that the future lay in pills, particularly in advertising pills. Anyone who could market their drug better would make more money.”

This is an important story that needs to be told. I have personally seen how opioids can ruin lives and cause death, and it’s crazy to me that the people in charge of everything are not held accountable. So, it’s shows like these that shed light on these issues.

The series is also starring Uzo Aduba, TaylorKitsch, Dina ShihabiAND West Duchovny. This series will paint all the people and companies that have profited from these drugs in a very bad light, which is what they deserve.

Berg directed all six episodes of the series, with showrunners Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster handling the series. Netflix will debut Painkillers on August 10, 2023.
