Shredder isn’t the main villain of the upcoming film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Cartoon movie. This first story will be something very different from anything we’ve seen before in a TMNT story, which I’m excited about. But, if the creative team can come up with a sequel, it looks like that movie could involve Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles villain Shredder.
During an interview with SFX magazine, co-director Jeff Row he teased Shredder’s involvement by saying, “We will dark Knight It.” He went on to say that he would 100% love to develop a sequel and shared, “When you’ve grown up and gained self-confidence as a teenager, to then face an enemy that’s three times scarier than anything you’ve ever seen first, it’s interesting and dramatic.”
The dark Knight refers to the Joker introduced in Christopher Nolan’s Batman sequel. As you know, Shredder is the archenemy of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ mentor, Splinter, and his real name is Oroku Saki, and he’s been portrayed in many different ways over the years. It will be fun to see what they do with him in this latest film franchise, and I hope we eventually get to see him in action!
When talking about putting the teenager in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, he said, “We wanted a teenager to watch the movie and feel seen by it and understood. That was our cornerstone for everything, like making the Turtles not huge, ripped versions of themselves, but lanky and awkward. That translated into casting real teenagers. It’s crazy that this hasn’t been done before.
I love how these characters are portrayed in the film and the fact that they are portrayed as real teenagers gives the film an incredibly fun and unique feel.
In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Chaos, after years sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as ordinary teenagers through heroic deeds. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in the way when an army of mutants is unleashed against them.
When previously talking about the tone of the film, the director Jeff Row revealed the vibe they were going for:. “We wanted it to be like Stand by Me AND Lady Bird. But, you know, with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The voice cast of the film includes Micah Abbey like Donatello, Shamon Brown Jr. like michelangelo, Nicola Cantu like Leonardo, Brady Noon like Raphael, Jackie Chan like Splinter, John Cena as Rocksteady, Seth Rogen like be-bop, Ice cube like Superfly, Rosa Byrne as Leatherhead, Natasia Demetrius like Wingnut, Ayo Edebiri as April O’Neil, Giancarlo Esposito as Baxter Stockman, Post Malone as Ray Fillet, Paul Rudd such as Mondo Gecko, e Maya Rodolfo as Cynthia Utrom.
THE Seth Rogen-product Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Chaos hits theaters August 4.
