Wonder Secret invasion series, which recently launched on Disney+, really has nothing to do with the comics that inspired it. It has the title, but when it comes to comics, according to the director Ali Selim”it had nothing to do with what we’re trying to do here.”
In fact, when the director got the gig, he was told not to read any of the Secret Invasion comics! During an interview with ScreenRant, Selim was asked how he chose which parts of the Secret Invasion comedy event to adapt while directing the series and said:
“When I took this job as director, I didn’t write the script. So a lot of these decisions were made by Kyle Bradstreet and the other writing team that we had. The first thing I was told is not to read comics. It had nothing to do with what we’re trying to do here. This story really came from the electricity created between Sam Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn or Nick Fury and Talos in Captain Marvel.
“And they were like, ‘Oh, we have to do something with that.’ So they found a story that would serve that relationship and expand on the MCU and other characters that aren’t in the comics. I think that’s a story on its own.
It makes sense that they didn’t want Selim to read the comics so as not to affect this completely different and unique story that the rest of the creative team was trying to tell. Yep, Marvel Studios doesn’t really follow the stories from the comics about anything they do. I’m certainly inspired by them, though.
Disney+ has only released one episode so far and it was good! We’ll just have to wait and see how the rest of the series plays out.
The story is set in the current MCU, “Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill, and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an impending Skrull invasion and save humanity.
The series is the protagonist Samuel L.Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulder, Martin Freemann, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, Katie Finneranwith Emilia Clarke, Olivia ColmannAND Don Cheadle.
