The story for Andor Season 2 will play out in a unique way. It will conclude the series and take us through the years of Cassian Andor’s journey as a spy for The Rebellion and how he tracked down the secret to the construction of the Death Star. The story leads directly to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Season 2 will take place over the course of four years, which will see the Rebellion expand in some major ways, and with that expansion, there will be problems and obstacles that will come along the way. In a recent interview with Deadline, Andor Creator Tony Gilori explained how the story will play out in the final season of the series saying:
“When we come back later, it will literally be like a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And then, we’ll skip a year, and then it’ll be, like, four or five days, and then we’ll skip a year, and then it’ll be another four or five days, and then we’ll skip a year and another four or five days. I don’t know if anyone has ever done this before because I don’t know if anyone has had the chance to do this before. We are in the brand new era of making these shows. These shows are all new. The whole idea of how to make these shows and their economic reach is new and everything is new.
Every three episodes in Andor Season 2 will cover the story of a year, and speaking earlier on what we can expect from the series, he explains that it explores the stresses, heartbreak and triumphs of rising rebellion:
“Think about the revolution, and think about it from Luthen Rael’s point of view, and from Saw Gerrera’s point of view, and from Mon Mothma’s point of view. They started out as original gangsters in this thing, and it’s underground, and it’s secret, and it’s small, and it’s isolated and confined. It’s going to be big in four years. Think of any restaurant you knew that started out as a bar, think of any startup company. What happens? Things get really complicated. If your actions and trading your business are paranoia, secrecy, betrayal and heavy consequences, expanding your business is really hard.
Gilroy went on to say:
“So think about it from the imperial side and they’re getting very, very close to a very important energy project. People might have heard about it. It’s an energy project. I guess it’s no surprise, but I think you’ll see the wear, you’ll see everyone the stresses and all the heartbreak and all the triumph of the 20 or 30 people we’re carrying on, with Cassian at the center, a very complicated piece of chaos and history that we’re going to pay attention to.
“We will work on the calendar. There are events in our calendar and you know what they are, some of them, and they are very important, and we will play them.” I’m guessing some of that has to do with the Death Star, but there’s also a lot of other stuff going on as the Rebellion is trying to fight back against the rise of the Empire.
The first season of Andor it was incredibly impressive. It was unlike anything we’ve seen before the Star Wars franchise, and hopefully we’ll see more of it after season 2 of Andor. The series will premiere in August 2024.
