If you are a fan of Quentin Tarantino, I have here a video that you can watch where the director discusses different topics during the Cannes Masterclass panel. The video is 70 minutes long and in it he talks about the violence in the movies, the influence of the film Thunder rumble had on him, his problems withTaxi driverdirector Brian DePalmaand more.
Believe it or not, Tarantino has a moral line he draws for violence in his films. He won’t kill animals. He said: “I have a great passion for killing animals in movies. It’s a bridge I can’t cross. Even the bugs. Unless I’m paying to see some bizarre documentary, I’m not paying to see real death. Part of the way it all works is that it’s just fiction. That’s why I put up with the violent scenes, because we’re just kidding.
He added: “A few animals, some dogs, some llamas, some flies, some rats, they don’t give a damn about your film. I’d kill a million rats, but I don’t necessarily want to kill one in a movie or see one killed in a movie, because I’m not paying to see real death. Almost always, it’s not just the violence that I have a problem with. There’s usually an incompetence factor in there.
It’s always fun listening to Tarantino talk about movies! While it touches on several topics, one thing it doesn’t really touch is the latest film he’s directing, The film critic. All she said about it was, “It’s a long story, I can’t tell you until you see the movie. I’m tempted to do some of the character monologues right now, but I won’t. Maybe if there were fewer cameras. You just have to wait and see.
Enjoy the video!
