Ryan Philip (Shooter), Émile Hirsch (Once upon a time in Hollywood), AND Mena Suvari (american horror story) will star in an upcoming action-survival thriller titled Kalahari. The film comes from Vertical and has already finished production.
The film tells the story of a young couple (Phillippe, Suvari), who are “forced to flee their Christian missionary post in the Kalahari Desert aboard a rickety plane after an extremist militant group threatens their lives. Piloted by a corrupt smuggler (Hirsch), the plane loses power and crashes in the middle of an animal reserve populated by lions, leopards and hyenas. Wounded, frightened and chased by extremists, this ragtag group must fight for their survival as man and beast where only the strong will survive.
The film was written and directed by Mukunda Michael Dewil (Collide) and is also starring Dylan Flashner (The card counter), Tristan Thompson (The guardian), Jeremy Tardi (Dear whites) AND Michaela Sasner (Consequences).
Producer Robert Ogden Barnum he said in a statement: “The Kalahari was a great experience. Mukunda has created a visual and visceral experience for the viewers. And with our many collaborations, I know the project is in great hands with Vertical and Voltage taking care of it.”
Vertical partner Peter Yarowey he added, “With the launch of the production arm of Vertical last year, we are thrilled that Kalahari is one of our first films fully funded by that initiative. The cast really gave fantastic performances and at times grueling conditions. We have worked with Rob Barnum on a number of successful projects in the past and are delighted to be partners on this as well. We are thrilled that Voltage, another long-standing partner, has taken over international sales so soon and will be able to present at Cannes this year. We envisioned this movie for the big screen and that’s exactly where we’ll be playing it later this year.”
Added President and COO of Voltage Jonathan Deckter: “We enjoy working with Vertical, Rob Barnum and Lucas Jarach. Between Leopards, Lions, Hyenas and Terrorists, the Kalahari will be the wild edge of your thrill seat ride that is sure to appeal to the global market.
