THE Young Guns The western film franchise assembled a cast of actors in the 1980s. That ensemble cast included Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, Charlie Sheen, Jack Palance, Terentius Stamp, and more. I liked those movies when they came out and Estevez is ready to revive the franchise! He believes the franchise still has gas in the tank.
During a recent interview with Uproxx, the actor said he wants to do three more Young Guns movie and that it is “ready to go”. He said:
“It all boils down to the legal masterminds processing the intellectual property. Look, I’m good to go. We have a terrific draft and if we can figure out the copyrights on all of this, and if Morgan Creek can somehow extricate from some of the problems they have in terms of continuing the franchise, we’re good to go. So it’s just a matter of when. Obviously, I’m not getting any younger, so I think we’ll drop the ‘younger’ from the title, which we did. But I think that the revival of Westerns is definitely to our advantage.”
The draft script he’s talking about is for Guns 3: AKA Billy the Kid. Several years ago Estevez mentioned that a third film was in development, but there have never been any reports of any real movement on it. But today we learned that there’s a script, so that’s a start!
The sequel concept spun theories suggesting that William H. Bonney, aka Billy the Kid, survived his reported death in 1881. In the 1940s, there was a Texas man named Brushy Bill Roberts who claimed to be Billy the Kid. Young Guns 2 also toyed with this theory. The actor went on to talk about the story he would like to tell, saying:
“There’s a new photo that’s surfaced. That’s pretty strong evidence! There’s a New York detective who’s on the case, which is a facial recognition type, and he’s looked at several, especially this new photo, and he said, ‘No doubt, this is the same guy many years later and it’s Brushy Bill…’ And that, again, is just further proof that there’s a story there.Brushy Bill Roberts, aka Billy the Kid, he fought alongside Pancho Villa in the Mexican Revolution. He was with Teddy Roosevelt at the Battle of San Juan Hill. Here’s a kid who was born with the advent of the Gatling gun and died in 1950 during the atomic age. I mean, think what he’s seen in his lifetime!”
I actually have a script for a Billy the baby movie would be great! I’m not sure we’ll ever see a sequel to Young Guns, but it would be interesting if one actually happens.
The first film is set in 1870 and follows a group of six young men recruited by the Englishman John Tunstall to work on his ranch. When Tunstall is murdered, the group sets out to avenge his death and become outlaws in the process. The film stars Estevez as Billy the Kid, Sutherland as Doc Scurlock, Sheen as Dick Brewer, Phillips as Chavez y Chavez, Dermot Mulroney such as Dirty Steve Stephens, e Casey Siemaszko as Charley Bowdre.
Young Guns II is set in the 1880s and follows an older and more experienced Billy the Kid as he tries to evade capture by Sheriff Pat Garrett. The film also features the return of some of the original cast members and introduces new characters, such as Christian Slater as Arkansas Dave Rudabaugh.
