Some new details have emerged for Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Acolyte series, which was developed by the director, writer, executive producer and showrunner Leslye Promontory.

This story is set in the High Republic era and the story is described as “a mystery thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of dark secrets and emerging dark side powers in the last days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with his Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they face are more sinister than they ever anticipated.” The series is set 100 years before the franchise’s prequel trilogy. The era of the High Republic is known as the Golden Age of the Jedi, a time when the ancient order was at its height.

Daphne Keen (Your dark matters, Logan) plays a large part in the story, and we recently learned in an interview with Empire, that she plays the “bi-species” young Jedi. She is revealed to be a human-alien hybrid character. It makes sense that in the vast Star Wars universe, all sorts of different alien species would come together and have children. I mean, humans and Jawas got together! Star Wars: Rebels introduced a hybrid species character with Jacen Syndulla, who is the son of Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla.

Keen described the new Star Wars series such as “David Bowie meets Star Warsand spoke about the look of his character saying, ‘I’ve got a little mullet, I’ve got horns, that’s cute.’ Headland added, ‘As a queer filmmaker, you’re going to see a field. Inevitably! But I would say tonally our references are more obscure.”

The series has also previously been described as “Frozen meet Kill Bill.” You can read some additional details about the series along with a description of the footage that has been shared here.

The cast of the series also includes Amanda Stenberg (The hate you give), Lee Jung-jae (Squid game), Manny Hyacinth (The Good Place), Carrie-Anne Moss (The matrix), Charlie Barnett (Russian doll), Rebecca Henderson (Invent Anna), Dean-Charles Chapman (1917), AND Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen and slim).

The series will also feature High Republic-era character Vernestra Rwoh (Rebecca Henderson), a Mirialan Jedi Knight and a fan favorite for her appearances in Star Wars books and comics.

I’m curious about this project. There’s still so much we don’t know about it, but I just hope it’s good.
