A few weeks ago, HBO Max, now simply called Max, revealed that they are officially moving forward with a Harry Potter series to the streamer. This seems like both good news, and bad news, as the actors in the movies have done such a fantastic job, and will be hard to replace, but on the other hand, it will be so nice to see the show get even more in-depth than the i movies they could ever make. The movies were great fun, but pretty much from the beginning, and especially from book 4 onward, there were huge gaps in the stories that fans of the books would have wanted to see played out. Now we are finally breaking out possibilities.
As the series is being cast, all the British actors are probably lining up to audition, and one could have quite a role, if they wanted to get in on the action. Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in love, The Handmaid’s Tale) was recently interviewed by ComicBook while he was doing press for The motherand since his brother played Lord Voldemort in the movies, he was asked what he thought of the new series.
First he said:
“You know, I’m trying to find that piece of makeup and that eye again, maybe I need it for an audition. I don’t know. I’ve only heard about it recently and it’s amazing. It feels like it was just yesterday. I don’t know because we have to reinvent everything. But I guess that’s what happens.”
But when pressed about his true feelings, he added:
“I think you’re right. The structure of television is now so brilliant and sophisticated, and the map is just open. they would have figured they’d have time to see in a movie theater. So I think, actually, television is really exciting in that sense.”
I think he’s right. I think this series is going to be really great. I think it’s going to be great to delve into the stories in the same way that we as readers might and to see them play out on screen. However, it doesn’t really sound like he’s trying to step into the role of the new Voldemort in the series. Sounds pretty bad The Handmaid’s Tale!
The new tenth anniversary Harry Potter the series will be produced by the author JK Rowling. Stay tuned for more information on the series as it develops.
