THE WALKING DEAD: DEAD CITY Full Trailer sees Maggie and Negan travel to Manhattan

AMC has released a full trailer for The Walking Dead: The Dead Citywho sees Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and May (Lauren Cohan) reunite and embark on a perilous journey into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, overrun by walkers. Why are they going to New York City? They’re looking for Maggie’s kidnapped son Hershel.

As you can imagine, this mission won’t be easy. Negan is a wanted man hunted by New Babylon Marshal Perlie Armstrong (Caius Charles). Charles spoke about New Babylon’s new position saying it is “one such state that has come together to try to put the world back together. My primary job, my primary goal and objective, is to bring justice to our land, our community, to protect him. And one of the biggest challenges is getting this guy named Negan.”

The character, Armstrong, is described as a devoted family man who is ruthless and relentless in the pursuit of what he believes is justice, but “complications come” as he hunts down Negan.

Series creator and showrunner Eli Jorne continued on about Negan and Maggie’s relationship on the series:

“It’s interesting because we see a very raw level of trauma that we know happened between Maggie and Negan. In Dead City, we actually have the ability to do that [ask], ‘What is this? What does it take to cross it?’ And more than anything, it’s a chance for us to be forced together in this mission. The tension and immovable things are still very much there. We’ve seen them cross paths so often, but on this show, it’s really this tunnel that they’re trapped in to deal with things they might have run from, especially what Maggie ran away from and what Negan ran away from.[‘s presence] breed for her. It’s like an exercise in intimacy with the worst person.

Jorné further explained the complexity of their relationship this time around:

“It’s the next chapter in Maggie and Negan’s story, and so, in that sense, there’s a lot of pain and trauma and loss on both sides and how do you manage that? How does Maggie look into Negan’s face every day and remember what she did to the love of her life? That’s still a huge part of the show. For anyone who’s watched The Walking Dead all these years and connected to those characters, we’re continuing the story, growing and evolving and deepening it in a whole new landscape.

Knowing the history of these two characters, it will be interesting to see them work together with such high stakes.

The Walking Dead: The Dead City will premiere Sunday, June 18 at 10 p.m. ET. It will air on AMC and AMC+. Subsequent episodes will move to the 9 p.m. ET timeslot. Watch the trailer below! Do you think these Walking Dead Will the spin-offs be as successful as the original flagship series?
