The series Seinfeld was a cultural phenomenon that ran from 1989 to 1998, running for nine seasons, winning ten Emmys, and being nominated for many, many more. The show has continued to run in syndication with no end in sight, and fans continue to talk about their love for the series, which still holds up for the most part.

But soon after the show wrapped, everyone was wondering what would happen to its stars, who were earning the highest salaries of any TV star in history at the time. Could they strike gold again? It would be hard to find another one Seinfeld. But when Michael Richards AND Jason Alexander each had a couple of shows that flopped, Hollywood dubbed what was going on the “Seinfeld curse.”

This is just ridiculous, as most shows don’t make it past the pilot, so being successful beyond season 1 is also extremely lucky, but having the success of Seinfeld? It’s just a once in a lifetime job. It makes sense that not everything they’ve touched turns to gold. Jerry Seinfeld he took a hiatus after the nine-season show ended and eventually returned to stand-up comedy. But Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the real proof that this “curse” does not hold.

The actress continued to star in the comedy for five seasons The New Adventures of Old Christine on CBS, the seven-season HBO comedy Look, and many films over the past two decades, including her recurring Marvel role of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Her body of work is her own proof that there is no such thing as a curse, but she the actress weighed it up nonetheless in her recent interview with Rolling Stone, saying:

“It was invented by the media. They thought it was smart. You don’t need me to prove her wrong, that was ridiculous! It didn’t make sense. I was amazed he had legs, because he was such a dumbass. I don’t know how else to say it!”

Exactly, Julia. Absolutely ridiculous. And for anyone who’s a fan of hers, she has a new podcast out of Lemonada, titled Wiser than mewhich is great.
