Star Trek: Picard Season 3 has taken Star Trek fans on an incredible adventure and it was great to see the original crew Star Trek: The Next Generation reunite for one last journey as they face the Borg once again.

picard (Patrick Stewart), William Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Deanna Troy (Marina Sirti), Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), worf (Michael Dorn), Data (Brent Spiner) and Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) had all returned and even returned to their original USS Enterprise-D ship which was awesome!
One character we didn’t see return, however, was Wil Wheatonit’s Wesley Crusher. Wheaton appeared as in the file Star Trek: Picard Season 2 finale, where he invited Kore Soong to join him as a member of the Travelers, who work to keep all time and space running smoothly. But we learn in Season 3 that Wesley never visited his mother, Beverly Crusher. He hasn’t seen his son since he left the Enterprise-D with the Traveler in the last season of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
So why the hell didn’t Wesley visit his mother? What kind of son doesn’t visit his mother!? Well, Wheaton offered an explanation on Facebook. His explanation isn’t really canon, but he says he’s “as close to an official answer as you can get.” His explanation deals with his character being a traveler and recalls when Wesley broke a traveler rule to ask Jean-Luc Picard for advice before deciding whether to go back in time to recruit Kore. This storyline came from the story Wheaton wrote at IDW Publishing Star Trek #400. Wheaton said:
“One of the fundamental rules of being in Travelers is that, once you join, you must NEVER interact directly with the people, places, planets, etc. that were part of your previous life, because it can affect your judgment and breaking reality. Wesley wants nothing more than to visit his mother and meet his brother. But he knows that not seeing them is a sacrifice he must make in service of something far greater than anything else in his reality.
So, there you are! That’s why Wesley didn’t visit his mother. Its a bit sad!
