As with any Star Wars project, Obi-Wan Kenobi was a limited series with a specific and important story to tell, and the creators of the show had the advantage of knowing who was going to direct the series, as it brought back the movie star Ewan McGregor to play the lead role. The next part was a little more difficult, in finding the other stars, including one who could play a young Princess Leia, one of the most beloved characters of the Star Wars Universe.

They ended up making a great choice, but the process was long and arduous. At last weekend’s Star Wars Celebration in London, young star of the series Vivien Lyra Blair explained to the audience what her audition process was like, saying:
“Well, it was a very, very, very, very, very long audition process. I think it was almost a year that I auditioned, and I did a lot of these dummy sides, which were character sides that already existed […] They just wanted to see how I could approach those scenes […] At one point there were codenames for codenames [audience laughs] because like, there were codenames, right? And then there were codenames for codenames, so I didn’t even know the codenames until my seventh audition or something.”
She went on to talk about working with co-star McGregor, saying:
“He’s an incredible human being and working with him has been just amazing. We’ve done so many things together […] I remember the scene where I was in the coat. I was inside the imperial officer’s coat and kept sticking my head out to look at the set and he kept trying to push me in. It was really fun.”
The casting directors definitely made the right choice with Blair, and it looks like she was having a blast on set. She maybe she will be able to reprise the role one day. Would you like to see her play Princess Leia again?
