This is Disney’s dark version of “The Little Mermaid”; a mystery theory (Disney)
Disney fans will be very disappointed, or, conversely, quite surprised, by one of the theories that revolve around one of the most beloved classics of all time; The Little Mermaid, the film of which it is assumed that there is a dark version that is not so childish, and in which the beautiful princess Ariel is an ancient Norse myth without a happy ending.
This dark version of “The Little Mermaid” has been circulating for a long time on social networks and some Internet users have come to consider it true, the truth is that, despite the fact that the Disney classic is a fantasy, it has generated controversy and enough questions regarding the alleged Norse myth it claimed, the company’s classic is based on.
Disney’s Little Mermaid, released in 1989, tells the story of Ariel, a beautiful mermaid princess who falls in love with a handsome human prince and makes a deal with the evil Ursula to be with him. But what many don’t know is that there is a dark theory that suggests the real story behind The Little Mermaid is much darker than Disney would have us believe.

‘The Little Mermaid’ May Be Based On Norse Myth ‘Rusalka’
The Little Mermaid’s dark theory suggests that the film is based on an ancient Norse myth called “Rusalka,” which tells the story of a water nymph who falls in love with a human and makes a deal with a witch to become a human and be with him. However, in the original myth, the Rusalka does not get her happy ending and is instead rejected and doomed to live in solitude.
According to this theory, Disney’s Little Mermaid would be a “lighter” version. of Norse myth, but even so, there are hints in the film that suggest the original story is much darker than we were led to believe. For example, the song “Poor Souls in Desgracia”, performed by Úrsula, is about how she sent many souls to the “afterlife”, which suggests that Úrsula is much more evil than we thought.

Another clue is the ending of the film, in which Ariel and Eric they get married and live happily ever after. But what about all the other characters? What about Triton, Ariel’s father, or her friends like Flounder and Sebastian? The theory suggests that after Ariel leaves with Eric, the other characters are killed by Ursula as revenge for defeating her.

The details that led to believe that the dark version is real
Although this theory has been circulating on the internet for some time, there is no concrete evidence that it is true. In fact, many argue that this theory is just that, a theory, and that there’s nothing in the film to suggest the story is much darker than Disney has led us to believe.
Moreover, the dark version of The Little Mermaid doesn’t fit the narrative that Disney does he built around his princesses. Unlike other films, such as Snow White or Sleeping Beauty, where the villains are clearly evil and the princesses are pure and innocent, The Little Mermaid features a protagonist who makes the wrong decisions and has to deal with the consequences of her actions. .
So far there’s no confirmation that the Little Mermaid’s dark theory is real, and while it’s certainly fascinating, it’ll just make you see the classic and its live action remake in a whole different way. But, in truth, there isn’t much, or less, that Disney accepts, and in the end, as always, you can draw your own conclusions.
