So far, the show has been an incredible and emotional journey. I enjoyed every episode as the writing, directing, acting and production value is top notch work. The creative team of Craig Mazin AND Neil Druckman they did such an amazing job telling this story!
During an interview with British Vogue, Ramsey reiterated “massively” and went on to talk about the hardest scenes in the series to shoot are the ones she enjoys the most: “It was… exhausting, but those were some of the my favorite days on set. It feels really masochistic, but it’s the scenes that break me that I love the most, in a way.”
The latest episode which was released last Sunday certainly took Ramsey through the wringer as Ellie finds herself in a pretty messed up and traumatic situation. When discussing episode 8 with CB, she spoke about it, saying, “It’s definitely a change. She’s been through trauma before, but this is nothing she’s ever been through. Of all the things that could have gone wrong in this world , all the time she could have died up to now, she hadn’t foreseen it.”
In the episode, Ellie meets David (Scott Shepherd) and James (Slutty Baker). It is a nightmare of a situation that finally ends in a bloody and brutal way. If you’ve seen the episode, you know what I mean.
The actor continued, “I think she’s also scared of not only what happened with David and what he was going to do to her, but I think maybe she’s even more scared of what she did to him and that violence that she’s going through.” Inside of her, I don’t think she’s… Let’s see when she punched Bethany in the face last episode, and we’ve seen her be violent, but not like that. And I think that scares her, what is she capable of? .”
It will be interesting to see how the first season of The Last of Us comes to a close, with Ramsey stating that it will divide people hugely. It makes me think that the creative team has drastically changed some things with respect to the game. Guess we’ll find out next weekend!
