Critics and fans alike have not been kind to him Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania. While I enjoyed the movie for what it was, which was Saturday morning cartoon-type entertainment, the movie wasn’t without its problems. The movie was full of problems and the script was great. So many people have complained about the bad dialogue, which I can’t argue with.
Quantimania is one of the worst-reviewed Marvel films in history, with 48% on Rotten Tomatoes nearly matching Eternals record score of 47%. Additionally, the film dropped 69% at the box office in its second weekend. It’s not going very well.
Well, now the screenwriter of the film, Jeff Love, is addressing the negative reviews, telling The Daily Beast, “To be honest, those reviews took me by surprise.” He went on to say that these reviews put him in “a pretty low position… Those weren’t good reviews, and I was like, ‘What the…?'”
Regardless, he’s proud of what he’s done with certain characters saying, “I’m really proud of what I’ve written for Jonathan Major AND Michael Pfeiffer [scientist Janet Pym]. I thought it was good stuff, you know? And so I was just disheartened, and I was really sad about it.
She started feeling better after watching the film with audience members in a theater during an actual screening saying, “I’m like, ‘Damn! NO, [the reviews] they are wrong! I’m right! MODOK is awesome!’ Overall I’m quite happy and think I’ve learned to take a punch this week. And now that I’ve learned that it’s not that bad, I can just keep doing stuff.
Quantimania it was Loveness’ first major feature film. Before that, she worked on shows like Jimmy Kimmel live AND Rick and Morti, and when he set out to write this Marvel movie, he wanted to “make an adventure kind of movie that I loved growing up.”
Loveness went on to say, “Con Paul Ruddwe had the opportunity to do this dad star of the 90s, like Robin Williams Hook OR Jumanji hear. You have this playful superhero who most people think is pretty low stakes, and the tone we had was what if he accidentally gets into a avengers film basically by itself, completely out of its depth? It seemed like a really fun challenge to take on.
Loveness is currently developing the script for Avengers: Kang Dynasty.
I saw Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania three times so far, and every time I look at it, it gets worse. So, I probably won’t watch it again. After three times all the film’s problems come up like a sore thumb, and one of its biggest problems, other than the special effects, is the script and the dialogue. But Jonathan Majors’ Kang The Conqueror still holds up.
