Zach assured Jess that he still felt there was “something there” with her, even without one-on-ones. Jess began to get excited. “I just want you to see my frustration,” she explained. “Time is ticking and it’s like, what can I do that feels organic and natural and not forced? It’s hard to be last. I hope you get to see it a bit.”

Jess stood firm with what she was feeling. “I understand your perspective that people are not who I think they are,” she said. “But not having one, in my opinion, is a big deal. I don’t know where you are going. I’m confused.”

It was at this point that Zach realized that he and Jess were on different pages. “I feel like there’s a disconnect,” he admitted. “I’m not sure anymore and I get nervous. I don’t feel that safe no matter how hard it is and it pains me to say it. Jess was crying now as she told him, “I told you from the beginning that I’m not going to fight over anyone. I told you all I wanted was someone to fight for me. I’m not. I won’t beg for you.

She got up and Zach followed, ending their relationship. “I’m lost,” Zach said afterward. “This is literally the last thing I could have expected from Jess. We were butting heads and not going to a better place, and I think it was the right thing for both of us to do.

Meanwhile, Jess was baffled that Zach never got her point. “Is it the craziest thing to want to date someone I could marry?” she guessed. “The craziest thing that bothers me is being last? If it’s someone I want to marry, I want to be chosen instantly. Wouldn’t I like to hear that he wants to take me on a date? So for him to be surprised that I got injured is crazy for me. I’m so confused.”
