The “Harry Potter” universe continues to expand, even if it now leaves aside books and films to make it in the form of a video game. Thus, this February 10th ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ arrives on our consoles, a title that takes us back in time to discover a hidden mystery about ancient magic in a completely original story where neither Harry, Ron, Hermione or any other character from JK’s stories Rowling will be an active part. However, that That doesn’t mean the game isn’t filled with details and winks that remind us of everything we love about those adventures.
10 ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ References To ‘Harry Potter’ That Will Excite Fans
1 Story inspired by the film

From the Warner Bros logo approaching the screen from the clouds, just like in all ‘Harry Potterr’ movies, already we’re forced to anticipate that Hogwarts Legacy will be drinking heavily from the film adaptations from the work of JK Rowling. She confirms this when you begin to see sequences that play out the same way as those seen on the big screen, in the reuse of narrative assets and even in characters that have almost identical functions to those of the young wizard’s story.
It is the case of prologue to Gringotts, where we enter the bank in an adrenaline-pumping scene on the tracks very similar to that of ‘The Deathly Hallows – Part 2’; of the use of the think tank, with which we discover the secrets of ancient magic in the same way as Voldemort’s past in “The Half-Blood Prince”; From choice of wand, where, like Harry Potter, we found ours on the third try after trashing Ollivander’s shop; or roles like Professor Fig or Professor Weasley, who almost act as mentors for the protagonist just like Albus Dumbledore or Minerva McGonagall.
Furthermore, they do not seem to have focused on the main ‘Harry Potter’ saga, since the initial encounter with the dragon aboard a thestral-driven carriage inevitably sends us back to Grindelwald’s escape from prison in ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’. And is that “Hogwarts Legacy” has not lost sight of anything that worked so well in “Harry Potter” and has transferred it as it is to the world of video games.
2 Why don’t we follow the butterflies?

Going into more specific references, as soon as you start wandering around Hogwarts, Hogsmeade or the vast surroundings of the Highlands, it’s easy to realize that everything is full of details that remind us of our best memories. This is the case of a secondary mission that we received in Las Tres Escobas, where a woman, who is afraid to approach the Forbidden Forest because of the many spiders that inhabit it, he asks us to follow a group of butterflies inside, which he believes may lead us to some treasure.
Does it look familiar to you? Exact! Regard a nod to one of Ron Weasley’s most mythical phrases in “Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets”when they decide to follow the spiders through the Forbidden Forest to Aragog and, given the character’s fear of these creatures, he will hear: “Why the spiders? Why can’t we follow the butterflies?”. Also, in case the nod was not clear, after completing the mission, which unlocks the secondary tasks of following the butterflies through various points of the map to collectibles, we will receive a trophy whose name replicates this phrase.
3 Ron Weasley!

Speaking of Ron Weasley, walking around Hogwarts we will realize that some past students have also faced problems similar to his. There’s more to look at than there is NPCs that face a Howler’s scolding, the screaming letter Ron received from his mother after hijacking his father’s car and flying to Hogwarts. In fact, the phrases we hear from howlers are virtually identical to those we saw in ‘Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets’with mothers giving their children quite a fight through this cantankerous letter.
4 I saw this in another game!

Many of us have fond memories of the first ‘Harry Potter’ games created by EA Games, and the developers of ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ seem to have taken that into account. If we recall, in titles such as “The Philosopher’s Stone” or “The Secret Chamber” in their PC versions, to learn the spells we had to follow the outline of the symbol associated with each spell, a mechanic that has remained almost identical in this new title.
The only difference is that while we again have to follow the shape of each spell with the jostick, now it’s more important to complete it quickly by pressing the buttons indicated on the screen. In addition, there are other mini-games such as the flight one, where we challenge other students to a broomstick race through the rings, which repeats the hippogriff challenge mechanic we had to complete in “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”where we also had to maintain course above the clouds by passing through the rings.
5 Is that the polyjuice potion?

Hermione Granger won’t be in the game, but there were like-minded students in the corners of Hogwarts in the past. If we explore the castle baths in the Astronomy tower area, when we open the door of one of the latrines we will see that secretly brewing potions didn’t just occur to Harry Potter’s clever friend. And it is that we see a concoction on a kettle which, inevitably, refers us to the deeds of the main trio who create the polyjuice potion to sneak into the Slytherin common room.
6 It was in the books!

With the release of the ‘Harry Potter’ movies, there were always complaints from fans about important passages or details from the books that were overlooked. Obviously audiovisual storytelling doesn’t give room to include everything, but that’s not the case with the videogame format. As well as seeing important rooms and items from the films on our Hogwarts tours, such as the Goblet of Fire displayed in the trophy room, there are references to chapters and events from JK Rowling’s lyrics that we’ve never seen on screen.
This is the case of the chapter ‘Death’s birthday’ of ‘The Chamber of Secrets’, where Nick Casidecapitato’s birthday took place. In Hogwarts Legacy, in the dungeons, through one of the doors that require the use of Alohomora, we will be able to access the Hall of the Birthday Party of Death, where the ghosts of the castle gather for their celebrations, which we also find on our walks giving free rein to their well-known phrases and their personality. But that’s not the only thing.
If we wander through the lower areas of the castle, where the Hufflepuff common room is located, we will be able to access the kitchens of Hogwarts, a place where the elves prepare the food that goes up in the large dining room and which we could not see even in audiovisual format. Furthermore, the way to access it is faithful to what JK Rowling wrote: by tickling the painted pear in the box that acts as an entrance.
7 Peeves

Without straying from details never seen in the movies or ghosts, there’s a ghostly being that fans will love to see perform their misdeeds across the halls of Hogwarts. Of course I’m talking about Pix, the poltergeist we never see in the film adaptations and that, in addition to playing an essential role in a main mission in the forbidden section of the library, we will constantly see students making life miserable as we explore the castle.
8 Link to Pottermore

It’s not a wink as such, but to everyone who used this service in 2012, took the test to be selected in a Hogwarts house, chose their wand, enjoyed the interactive experience of each book or many texts that Rowling has published there expanding the wizarding world, you will be especially happy to know that you can transfer your progress to “Hogwarts Legacy” by linking your Wizarding World account to the game. This it means enjoying a personalized gaming experience where, beforehand, you will have access to your own house or to have the same wand. Of course, once in the game you can change the option.
9 fantastic animals everywhere

The saga starring Newt Scamander also has a special role in “Hogwarts Legacy”. Just look at the option to trap animals in a magic bag and raise them in our personal space in the Room of Requirement. But there’s a wink that points much more directly to this spinoff and Eddie Redmayne’s character.
If we pass through Hogsmade station, where the Hogwarts Express stops, we may come across a wizard who appears to have another bag full of magical creatures. While we’re in the area, a niffler will scamper through his belongings and start wreaking havoc on the witches and wizards on the platform, eliciting all kinds of complaints. And in fact he remembers the misdeeds that Teddy, Scamander’s Niffler, always did by running away and stealing objects.
10 A very familiar tune

During the game, the sounds of the Harry Potter movie soundtracks will accompany our adventure through the wizarding world. But there is a side mission in which the soundtrack of the saga takes on a special role and will make us smile. It is one of the treasure hunts in the southern part of the Poidsear coast, in which we have to guide ourselves through maps, drawings and clues that we find in the scrolls to reach a reward.
In this particular one we arrive at some ruins with bells where to access the treasure we must ring them in a specific order. As we strike them with our magic, various notes will be recorded on a stave located on a lower wall, and if we do it correctly, the melody we have inscribed will start playing, which is none other than the main theme of ‘Harry Potter’ composed by John Williams.
One only needs to walk through Hogwarts and its environs to realize this, for, in the liveliness of its surroundings and its extreme attention to detail, there is a lot of care for the legacy of the franchise, for many of its iconic moments and even for the plot data from the books that we miss in the films. Furthermore, beyond the simple references in the corners of the castle, Hogsmeade or the vast world of the Highlands to explore, the story of “Hogwarts Legacy” comes with a narrative with moments that will be very familiar to us and will lead us to experience an emotion similar to watching a new movie about the wizarding world.
The best way to enjoy the experience is for each player to discover all these details on their own, but in case you want to find out if you missed a wink or don’t have a chance to taste “Hogwarts Legacy”, we will leave you all who are managed to find in our hours of play through the universe of ‘Harry Potter’. Have you seen them all? Do you miss someone?
