Screenwriting duties are in the hands of Ed Zwick AND Marshal Herskovitz. Originally planned as a ten-episode limited series, the creative team decided on it Billy Summers it would have served better as a feature film.
The story centers on Billy Summers, “a hit man who is looking to retire and takes one last high-paying job to fill his nest. The job requires him to fit into a quiet town, where he pretends to be an aspiring writer (in reality he pours himself into prose). He settles into an office with a direct view of where hitman Joel Allen will be taken to face trial for shooting two men in a poker game. Allen has also committed enough murders that some top mobsters fear the gunman might indict his former employers to reduce his sentence. Summers, a meticulous craftsman, becomes increasingly cynical about the mobsters who hired him, and his skepticism is well justified when things go awry after the job’s completion.
Bad Robot continues its series of Stephen King adaptations, with previous projects such as Lisa’s story, Rock CastleAND 11/22/63. Get ready for an epic hitman thriller with a dose of signature King suspense!
