James Gunn’s CREATURE COMMANDOS DC animated series is too big for live-action

There is a lot of interesting and interesting information coming from James Gunn AND Peter SafranDC Studios’ big announcement event. One of the many announced projects that I don’t see much talk about is the animated series that Gunn has already written titled Commandos creature.

This is actually a pretty exciting project, especially for animation fans. Commandos creature is the only animated project announced for the DCU’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. This gang of misfit characters was introduced in Weird War Tales #93 (Nov. 1980), created by JM DeMatteis and Pat Broderick.

The story of the project is so big that the only way it could be told is through animation because it would be too expensive to make for live-action.

Speaking about the project, Safran said, “The animation will lead to live action and then back to animation again. It’s a way to tell giant, huge stories without spending $50 million per episode. He continued, “Sometimes it’s a fun way to introduce characters or introduce stories that would be frankly too expensive to do in live-action.”

Commandos creature consists of military superhumans including a human leader, a werewolf, a vampire, Frankenstein’s monster, and a gorgon. Gunn pointed out that Weasel from his film Suicide squad will be in the show.

Gunn went on to explain, “Commandos creature it builds on the great team at DC. What we’re doing with the DCU is the animation is directly connected to the live action. Television, movies, and games all intertwine in the same universe. We will be casting actors who will be able to play characters in this as well as other things, some of which we have already cast. I’ve written all seven episodes of the show, and it’s in production. So that’s the first thing, and I love it.”

The story will be told over the course of seven episodes, so if it were a live-action series, it could have cost DC Studios $245 million to $280 million to produce.

I’m curious to see how this show turns out!
