Marvel Studios has released a new image that features Jonathan Major as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania. The latest trailer for the film has offered a little more insight into this villain and his motivations in the story, and will kick off his epic arc in the MCU that will lead to Avengers: Kang Dynasty.

While speaking with Empire, Kevin Feige talks about introducing Kang to the MCU and how the character allows the creative team to play with a “new kind of Big Bad.” He also explains what exactly Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, needs to help him:

“It’s the obvious choice since you’re dealing with the Multiverse. Kang has allowed us to make a new kind of Big Bad. He’s a different kind of villain, fighting each other as much as he’s fighting our heroes. Kang is a very powerful person, but when we meet him he’s in a position where he needs to get that power back. He has a ship and a device that would allow him to go anywhere, and when he wants, if he can get it online. Him if only he had access to genius scientists with Pym particles.”

Those comments pretty much set the stage for the story, which will find Kang trying to work with Ant-Man for his nefarious plans. As you saw in the trailer, the working relationship between Ant-Man and Kang isn’t going too well.

I can’t wait to see this movie and I’m curious to see how this story will play out and how it will create Kang’s big story in the MCU.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania officially kicks off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and in it “superhero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangelina Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents, Hank Pym (Michele Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michael Pfeiffer), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures, and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible. The film is also the protagonist Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, and Bill Murray.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania is once again directed by Peyton Reed from a script written by Jeff Love. The film will be released on February 17, 2023.
