Netflix has won the rights to adapt the best-selling YA novel Both die in the end in a series. The book, written by Adam Silverawas adapted from the Emmy nominee Bridgerton Creator Chris Van Dusenwho is an executive producer through his CVD Productions along with Silvera, Yellow Jackets executive producer Drew Comins and studio eOne, as well as music superstar Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, known professionally as Bad Bunny.

“The novel is a devastating yet uplifting story about two people whose lives change over the course of one unforgettable day. The synopsis of the book reads: On September 5, shortly after midnight, Death-Cast calls Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio to give them some bad news: they will die today. Mateo and Rufus are complete strangers, but, for different reasons, they’re both trying to make a new friend on their dying day. The good news: There’s an app for that. It’s called The Last Friend, and through it, Rufus and Mateo are about to meet for one last great adventure: living a life in just one day.
Both die in the endwhich made history as the first YA novel featuring queer Latinx characters to reach #1 on the New York Times bestseller list, was a hit when it was first published in 2017. The novel has since experienced a renaissance during the pandemic and reached no. 1 again in April 2021 after becoming a fixture under TikTok’s #BookTok hashtag, propelling it to spend 15 consecutive months at #1 YA on the NY Times Best Seller list and become the best-selling YA book of 2021 .
Globally, the novel surpassed the last Dusk book as best seller n. 1 YA in the UK and Australia. a prequel, The first to die in the endwas released on October 4, 2022, again reaching #1 on the NY Times Best Seller list and has remained on the list for 13 consecutive weeks since its release.
