It was confirmed at D23 Expo 2022 that fans could look forward to a sequel to Pixar’s hit animated film Inside out since 2015. In and out 2 is set to drop in 2024 and the only confirmed actors who have signed on to return are Amy Poehlerwhich will return as the voice of Joy; Lewis Black like the voice of anger; Phyllis Smith as an entry for Sadness; and Diana Lane returning as the mom in the story. That leaves the original cast members Bill Hader, Mindy Kaling, Riccardo Gentileand some more are in the air.
We now know that Mindy Kaling, who voiced the green character Disgust in the original film, will officially not be returning to her role.
While recently talking to The Wrap about his upcoming Scooby-Doo spin-off series VelmaKaling was asked In and out 2and she replied:
“I had a lot of fun working on ‘Inside Out’ and I’m sure ‘Inside Out 2’ will be great. But I’m not working on it.”
He further pointed out that he is not part of the film “right now”. This may reflect the fact that rumors claimed cast members were reluctant to join the sequel after facing salary disputes. Kaling’s involvement could change as the story takes a different shape (Pixar films go through many iterations before making it to the screen) or, of course, they reach a deal over the fee.
I would be disappointed to see a second film without the original voice cast! Inside out It’s a movie that my kids have loved and continued to watch over the years and I can’t wait to see the sequel. Come on head of story Kelsey Mann is directing the film, and Meg LeFauve he’s coming back to write the screenplay.
In and out 2 will be released in theaters on June 14, 2024.
