“1923” Shocker: Several Duttons are killed and one remains dead after a bloody shootout



The Dutton family suffered a devastating tragedy in episode 3 of 1923. Jacob, Cara, John Sr., Jack, Emma and Liz return to the ranch when they are ambushed. They all hear a shot in the distance and another soon follows, hitting Liz in the stomach. Her white dress is immediately soaked in blood.

Jacob yells to get the cart out of there. More shots are fired and Jack is shot in the arm. The carriage horses are spooked during the firefight and gallop off with Liz still in her place. Cara and Emma run to cover the vicinity followed by Jacob and John Sr. Zane and the cowboys realize something has gone wrong and go to help the Duttons.

Jack chases after Liz in the runaway stroller. He manages to control the horses and get Liz out of there. Suddenly, the shooting stops. But the fight is far from over. Horsemen arrive from the woods and Jack decides to shoot them. This starts another shootout. Jacob, Cara and John Sr. fire from their seats and Banner Creighton appears from behind with an automatic weapon.

“Jacob Dutton, I’m a man of my word!” Banner yells at him before shooting the Duttons. Jacob tells everyone to run, but to no avail. Jacob and Jack Sr. are shot multiple times. Cara and Emma manage to get to safety with Jack and Liz. Luckily, Zane and the cowboys show up to help the Duttons.

Banner drives off in his car. Zane orders Jack to go find the stroller. Cara feels something is wrong with Jacob and Jack Sr. She finds Jacob in a terrible state, with blood coming from his nose. They shot him several times.

John Duton Sr. died

When he looks at John Sr., he’s dead. They shot him directly in the eye. Emma yells for John Sr. and Cara begs her not to come. Emma doesn’t listen to her. Emma sees that John Sr. is dead and leaves in shock.

In the distance, Cara sees one of the Irish forwards. She shoots him once and he begs her to stop. He tells her she will go to hell if she kills him. In the same scene we saw in the pilot episode, Cara fires her gun, but she’s out of her load. The two quickly run to reload and she Cara manages to kill him before she can shoot her.

Jacob and Liz are taken back to the Duttons’ house. They are laid out on the kitchen tables. Jacob is in very bad shape. Cara sees that Jacob’s injuries are serious. Jacob can ask Zane if he has them all. Zane reveals that Banner is gone, but he will send for the sheriff first. Jacob urges Zane not to call the sheriff.

“It’s useless,” Jacob tells Cara of his injuries. Cara remains optimistic. She won’t give up on him. “Now Spencer has to go home. Take it home,” he tells her.

Guy begs Spencer to come back

The doctors and nurses arrive to help Cara with Jacob and Liz. Emma is still sitting in the car with John Sr.’s body behind her. The doctor enters a bloody scene. He tells Cara to back off. Time is of the essence when it comes to saving Jacob.

Cara leaves and starts writing to Spencer, who is still in Africa. “Spencer, your brother was killed,” she writes. “When you get this letter, I assume your uncle has also been murdered. His nephew was injured. This ranch and its legacy are in danger. War has come upon this place and upon your family. Any war you wage within yourself has to wait. You have to go home and fight against this. new episodes of 1923 premieres Sunday on Paramount+.
