Emily Atack is holding back from signing up to a third Inbetweeners movie for Netflix after being snubbed from previous films following past co-star friction.
The 36-year-old actress, who played Charlotte "Big Jugs" Hinchcliffe in the original British coming-of-age television comedy, was previously excluded from reunion projects after co-star James Buckley reportedly issued an ultimatum to producers.
Buckley, who plays Jay Cartwright in the series, was reported to have given an "it's her or me" warning to show bosses. He was apparently concerned that working closely with Atack would cause friction at home with his wife, Clair Meek, following a brief romantic fling between the actors during filming between 2008 and 2010 when both were single.
So Atack was left out of the earlier reunion projects and is believed to remain furious about the situation, which is now influencing her decision regarding the streaming giant's offer. A source told The Sun that the actress has not moved past her previous exclusion: "She hasn't forgotten what happened last time. She was absolutely furious that she wasn't invited back for the previous Inbetweeners reunion, and she has never really got over the way she felt she was treated."
The source added: "Emily's attitude is basically, 'Why do you want me now when I wasn't good enough then?' Emily and James Buckley have history, and there is no getting away from the fact that it would be awkward having to work closely together again." Representatives for Atack have been contacted by the Daily Mail for comment.
Netflix Film Revival
While rumors of a revival have circulated for years, reports recently confirmed that all four primary male leads, Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley, and Blake Harrison, have signed contracts to star in a third Inbetweeners movie for Netflix.
However, Netflix executives are not satisfied with securing only the core male cast. Production bosses are actively seeking to bring back Atack to reprise her prominent role as Charlotte Hinchcliffe alongside the original characters.
Although all four main male actors were reported to be thrilled to return, sources noted that committing to the film is significantly harder for Atack given her current professional and personal commitments. If filming begins in the near future, the project could air on Netflix as early as 2027.
Atack has previously discussed the prospect of returning to the franchise. Speaking to Capital FM, she expressed uncertainty, saying: "I don't know. We'd all be quite a lot older now. What was quite funny was when we filmed the series I was only 17, I'd just left school, but the boys were well into... I think they were in their late twenties, early thirties."
Television Roles and Personal Life
Alongside potential film negotiations, Atack maintains a busy broadcasting schedule. She currently stars in the Disney series Rivals and is in the process of filming a new BBC programme titled Reputation.
She is also waiting to learn whether broadcaster ITV will commission a second series of Nobody's Fool, the television game show she hosts alongside her Rivals co-star Danny Dyer.
In her personal life, the mother-of-one is preparing for her wedding to scientist Alistair Garner in Spain this September. The couple became engaged in July 2025, having welcomed their son Barney the previous year in 2024.
Ahead of the nuptials, Atack recently celebrated her hen party in Cannes, France, with a group of roughly 20 friends. Posing in a black two-piece bikini, an Agent Provocateur white bikini with a veil, and a golden satin co-ord, she joked that she had enjoyed "enough rosé to last a lifetime" while drinking Lady A rosé.
Sharing pictures on social media, including photos in a sparkly rainbow sequinned dress, Atack wrote: "The most insanely perfect few days. Pure joy from start to finish and enough @drinkladya to last us a lifetime. I thoroughly recommend having a hen do even if you aren't getting married btw. It's the most fun you'll ever have losing all of your belongings."
Co-Star Health Admission
The reunion developments follow a recent health revelation from Buckley. The actor disclosed this week that he faces a high risk of a cardiovascular incident due to a genetic blood condition.
Buckley revealed he was admitted to hospital for severe dehydration after blood tests indicated elevated levels of Lipoprotein(a), a genetically inherited type of blood cholesterol. The condition accelerates plaque accumulation within arteries, increases arterial inflammation, and raises the risk of blood clots.
Lipoprotein(a) affects approximately one in five individuals worldwide and typically shows no physical symptoms until a cardiovascular event occurs. Days after sharing his diagnosis, Buckley was seen in high spirits on set, filming scenes in Cheshire for Harlan Coben's upcoming Netflix drama series The Woods In Cheshire.
