Nutritionists explained that timing has little impact on how the body processes omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential nutrients for cardiovascular health found in fish, shrimp, and other seafood.

Unlike caffeine, which produces a noticeable physical effect shortly after consumption, omega-3 fatty acids do not act immediately. Instead, these nutrients accumulate gradually within the human body over time, making consistent intake far more critical than the hour of the meal.

Nutritionists noted that while many people wonder whether eating seafood at specific times of day enhances its benefits, choosing a particular hour provides no extra gain if fish is only eaten occasionally. Making fish a routine part of a daily diet is considered a much more effective strategy.

The primary omega-3 fatty acids found in seafood are eicosapentaenoic acid, known as EPA, and docosahexaenoic acid, known as DHA. These compounds participate directly in cell membrane function and influence fat metabolism. A study published in the journal Frontiers showed that marine-derived omega-3s can lower triglyceride levels in the blood, although the extent of this effect depends on the quantity consumed, the source, and an individual's overall health status.

Sardines are likewise very fatty and rich in omega-3s. Because sardines sit near the bottom of the aquatic food chain, they accumulate smaller amounts of mercury compared to large predatory fish.

Mercury is a heavy metal found in ocean waters that accumulates in apex predators through a process known as biomagnification. Meanwhile, essential nutrients like vitamin B12 support nerve tissue and red blood cell production, while potassium helps regulate fluid balance throughout the body.

Trout provides a strong source of omega-3s along with vitamin D, and its straightforward home preparation makes it well suited for regular meals. Nutritionists concluded that individuals do not need to schedule specific times to consume omega-3 fatty acids. The most effective approach is to select preferred fish varieties and consume about two servings per week, keeping seafood as one component of a balanced dietary pattern rather than replacing other essential foods.
