Travel publishing group Lonely Planet has selected the nine best beaches in Dubrovnik for tourists traveling to Croatia during the autumn season. The choices aim to guide visitors heading to the Balkan city during the quieter shoulder season, when crowd levels drop across one of Europe's most heavily congested tourist destinations.
Experts from the publisher noted that autumn visitors to the Adriatic resort have an opportunity to secure more space along the coast. However, they warned that many recommended sites feature pebble terrain with extensive open exposure, urging holidaymakers to pack durable beach footwear and reliable sun protection.
Dubrovnik, situated on the blue waters of the Adriatic Sea in southern Croatia, is renowned for its UNESCO-listed Old Town encircled by massive stone defensive walls. While summer peak months bring heavy tourist congestion to its historic streets, the autumn period provides a more relaxed atmosphere for exploring the coastal region.
Authors of the guide stated that sun-drenched Dubrovnik offers an array of cultural sights, including medieval walls, preserved monasteries, historic palaces, museums, and galleries. They explained that while many of the city's beaches are small, options range from famous shores near the Old Town to secluded spots hidden from public view.

The published list highlights Banje Beach as the primary option for family holidays, while identifying Sveti Jakov Beach as a favorite spot among local residents. Copacabana Beach was named the top destination for active recreation, Buža was designated for sea swimming, and Šulići Bay was recommended for snorkeling and kayaking.
For travelers seeking sand instead of stones, the selection points to Šunj Beach. The island of Lokrum was highlighted for naturists and nudists, while Pasjača Beach was chosen for visitors looking for peace and quiet. Veliki Žal was named as the ideal shore for relaxing in shallow water.
