Prolonged breastfeeding may cause bite problems in children, dentist Maria Belyaeva has warned in a conversation with the Telegram channel Baza.
Pediatric orthodontists told the outlet that 90 percent of their patients have bite pathologies, which the doctors attribute in part to prolonged lactation. Belyaeva explained that extended sucking, whether at the breast or from a bottle, means the jaw does not receive the load it needs and develops incorrectly.
Baza also reported, citing unnamed gynecologists, that prolonged lactation may raise the likelihood of breast cancer and lead to calcium loss from bones.
The outlet noted that the trend toward extended breastfeeding spread among young mothers roughly a year and a half ago.
Separately, dentist Pavel Lysenkov previously warned that toothache can be a symptom of a heart attack, a connection he attributed to disrupted blood supply to the heart muscle.
