Singer David Bustamante has left MasterChef Celebrity Legends just before the semi-final after failing a demanding snow globe pastry test.

David Bustamante exits MasterChef Celebrity Legends

Spanish singer David Bustamante has been eliminated from MasterChef Celebrity Legends on La 1 de RTVE, falling just short of the semi-final.

The Cantabrian pop star departed in the tenth episode of the culinary contest following a punishing elimination challenge focused on avant-garde pastry. His exit disrupted early predictions for the season, removing one of the most prominent contenders in the kitchen before the final rounds.

Broadcast across Spain by public network RTVE, MasterChef Celebrity Legends brings together notable figures from television, music, and the arts to face professional culinary trials. Bustamante first rose to national fame in 2001 on the musical talent show Operacion Triunfo and has since built a career as a multi-platinum recording artist.

The broadcast combined intense technical cooking with deep personal moments, featuring surprise visits from family members, a demanding outdoor service in Portugal, and a high-stakes pastry test that decided the final places.

Family cooking challenge in the studio

The evening began inside the main studio with an emotional reunion as the contestants were joined by their loved ones. Each contestant paired up with a family member to prepare dishes together for the opening challenge of the night.

Guest chef Rafa Zafra appeared in the kitchen alongside his mother, Conchi, setting a heartfelt tone for the room. Zafra is known in the culinary world for his acclaimed seafood restaurants, including Estimar in Madrid and Barcelona, following years of training alongside Ferran Adria.

During the cooking, Bustamante openly displayed his pride while preparing food side by side with his daughter Daniella. Fellow competitor Florentino Fernandez, the comedian and television host widely known as Flo, revealed a vulnerable side by dedicating his kitchen efforts to the memory of his late mother.

Alongside the emotional atmosphere, the opening round featured lighthearted moments, impromptu dancing, and competitive banter over who could peel vegetables fastest. Contestants also exchanged jokes about working with luxury ingredients such as caviar and champagne.

At the conclusion of the challenge, Fernandez earned unanimous applause from the judges, securing victory in the first test of the night. The judging panel on the Spanish edition features veteran chefs Pepe Rodriguez and Jordi Cruz, who evaluate dishes alongside guest professionals.

Haute cuisine trial in Porto

For the outdoor team challenge, the production traveled across the border to Portugal, setting up at the Hotel Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia in the city of Porto. The luxury hotel sits along the Douro riverbank in an area famed internationally for historic port wine cellars and gastronomy.

The remaining contestants faced an exacting assignment operating under a double captaincy system. Their task required them to replicate a high-end menu created by chef Nacho Manzano, the celebrated Asturian culinary figure who holds two Michelin stars at Casa Marcial.

Cooking for fifty invited diners, the contestants contended with tight deadlines and complex culinary preparations. The service produced notable strategic tensions between the teams as pressure mounted at the plating stations.

Filmmaker Santiago Segura and fashion designer Maria Escote stepped in with sharp reprimands, calling out a visible lack of discipline among the kitchen brigades. Both figures regularly appear in Spanish entertainment and fashion broadcasting, bringing an uncompromising eye to group organisation.

Despite the friction, the blue team pulled off a clear victory over their rivals. The win earned the blue team members direct qualification for the upcoming semi-final gala.

Actress Paz Vega stood out as the top performer across the entire outdoor challenge. Vega, celebrated internationally for her leading roles in Spanish cinema and Hollywood productions, was awarded a prize of 4,000 euros.

She chose to donate the entire sum to the Spanish Rare Diseases Federation, known as FEDER. The non-profit organisation represents patients and families affected by rare medical conditions throughout Spain, funding research and support services.

The snow globe pastry test

The final phase of the broadcast brought the remaining contestants into the elimination round, where those wearing black aprons faced the most technically demanding test of the season. The contestants had to create a delicate avant-garde dessert shaped like a snow globe.

Author and television presenter Boris Izaguirre joined the kitchen as a guest, appearing alongside Camilla, the winner of MasterChef 14. Their presence added to the scrutiny as the participants raced against the clock.

The complex dessert required multiple components to be prepared with pinpoint precision. Contestants had to bake a lemon sponge cake, prepare a raspberry insert, assemble a chocolate tree, whip fresh cream, and sculpt detailed fondant decorations.

The most treacherous element of the bake was an extremely thin, transparent dome made from isomalt. Isomalt is a sugar substitute derived from beets that is prized by professional pastry chefs for its high clarity and resistance to moisture, but it requires precise temperature control to avoid clouding or cracking.

The final minutes of the cook provoked palpable anxiety across the workstations as contestants attempted to unmould and place their sugar domes without breaking them. The judges then conducted a thorough, itemised inspection of each dessert.

Judges deliver final verdict

Following the tasting, the judges delivered their verdict and announced that Bustamante was eliminated from the competition. His exit marked an abrupt conclusion to a run that had made him one of the favorites to reach the final.

Bustamante accepted the outcome with grace and sportsmanship. He said goodbye to the judges and his fellow competitors, expressing sincere gratitude for the skills and lessons he had acquired throughout his weeks on the show.

With Bustamante out of the competition, the path is now open for the penultimate gala of the season. Fernandez confirmed his place in the semi-final, dedicating his survival to the determination and tenacity instilled in him by his father during a night of intense culinary scrutiny.
