Danny Boyle film Ink gets Russian theatrical release

The new biographical drama Ink, directed by Oscar winner Danny Boyle, will be released in Russian cinemas. An exact release date in Russia has not been announced, but the film will hold its world premiere on September 2 at the opening of the Venice Film Festival.

The story takes place in the early 1960s when Rupert Murdoch, owner of the British newspaper The Sun, appoints unprincipled Larry Lamb as head of the editorial staff. Murdoch turns the modest publication into a tabloid with multi-million turnover before founding the media holding company 21st Century Fox.

Stage origin and cast

Screenwriter James Graham adapted the script from his original play. The original London production won a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, and the Broadway version received two Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Lighting Design.

The cast includes Guy Pearce, Jack O'Connell, Claire Foy, Lucy Russell, and Brin Gleeson. Boyle previously directed Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, and Slumdog Millionaire.
