Cristiano Ronaldo will produce and make a cameo appearance in a new television series about a football agent, according to a report by The Sun. The Portuguese footballer is working on the project alongside director Matthew Vaughn.
The series will be the first project produced by their joint studio, UR•Marv. Vaughn is an established British director and producer best known for directing major feature films including X-Men: First Class and the Kingsman action franchise.
Titled Day One, the series is based on an idea created by sports manager Darren Dein. Viewers may see actor Damian Lewis, who starred in the film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, take the lead role in the show. Lewis is an English actor known for his roles in major television series including Homeland and Band of Brothers.
Cast and production team
Former Arsenal player Thierry Henry and rapper Dave will also appear on screen. A premiere date for the series has not yet been announced.
Henry is a former France international forward who spent eight years at English Premier League club Arsenal, where he became the team's all-time leading goalscorer. Dave, whose real name is David Omoregie, is an acclaimed British musician from London who won the Mercury Prize for his debut album. In professional football, agents handle contract negotiations, transfer deals and commercial endorsements for athletes.
World Cup elimination
The news follows Ronaldo's recent defeat at the football World Cup. The Portugal national team lost 0-1 to Spain and was eliminated from the competition.
The competition was the last World Cup of Ronaldo's career, and the athlete could not hold back tears after the final whistle. Ronaldo is a five-time Ballon d'Or winner who has represented Portugal since 2003, while Spain and Portugal are neighbouring European nations with a long international football rivalry.
