Spanish public broadcaster Corporación RTVE has officially appointed journalist Conchi Aquesolo as the new director of its territorial delegation in La Rioja, ending the ten-year tenure of predecessor José Manuel Lumbreras.
The management change forms part of an ongoing reorganization across the public broadcaster's regional network in Spain. In recent months, RTVE has introduced similar leadership updates in other regional centers, including Castilla y León and the Valencian Community.
Corporación de Radio y Televisión Española, known as RTVE, is Spain's state-owned public broadcasting entity. It operates national television network Televisión Española, national radio network Radio Nacional de España, and a widespread system of regional centers across the country's autonomous communities that produce localized news bulletins and provide coverage for national programming.
Career background and local news leadership
Aquesolo, who was born in the Riojan capital of Logroño in 1972, brings more than two decades of direct professional experience at the station she now leads. She earned a journalism degree from the University of the Basque Country and completed her professional master's training at the daily newspaper El Correo.
After starting her media career in regional news outlets during the late 1990s, Aquesolo joined the permanent staff of Televisión Española in 2004. Over the past twenty years, she became a familiar presence on regional television as the primary presenter of local news program Telerioja, while also editing news broadcasts and reporting on regional developments for national bulletins on Telediario and 24 Horas.
Since 2016, Aquesolo served as head of news services at the La Rioja delegation. Broadcaster executives said her elevation to overall director reflects an internal commitment to balancing strong local news coverage with the national visibility required for regional reporting.
The appointment comes at a symbolic moment for public broadcasting in northern Spain, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of regular Televisión Española broadcasts in La Rioja.
Technological modernization and digital transition
Operational priorities under the new leadership include upgrading the technological infrastructure at the regional headquarters and expanding the digitization of broadcast content.
Aquesolo said the station must adapt to evolving media consumption patterns and engage younger audiences while upholding public service standards of pluralism, independence, and journalistic rigor.
RTVE stated that the leadership transition is intended to maintain stability within a strategic regional station essential to the broadcaster's nationwide territorial structure.
Aquesolo assumed leadership with the goal of preserving the production center as a key news reference for the citizens of La Rioja while accelerating the integration of traditional broadcasting workflows into RTVE's digital narrative.
The La Rioja center, located in Logroño, serves as the primary regional broadcasting hub for the autonomous community, supplying daily regional bulletins and contributing news coverage to national Spanish television and radio networks.
