Celine Dion returns to the stage this Saturday for her first major concert in six years, opening a run of sold-out shows near Paris following a difficult battle with a rare neurological condition.
The Canadian singer, one of the best-selling recording artists in the world, is preparing to perform a total of 26 concerts over the next eight months, marking one of the most anticipated musical moments of the year. Dion, who is from Charlemagne, Quebec, rose to global fame in the 1990s and became known worldwide for songs such as "My Heart Will Go On," the theme from the film Titanic, as well as for a long-running concert residency in Las Vegas.
Battle With Stiff Person Syndrome
Dion revealed in 2022 that she has stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms.
The illness forced her to withdraw from performing and focus on her recovery, away from the spotlight.
Her only major public appearance during that time came at the 2024 Paris Olympics, when she moved audiences by singing Edith Piaf's "L'Hymne a l'amour" from the Eiffel Tower. Her performance, wearing a striking Dior creation, was described as one of the most powerful moments of the Games.
Paris Prepares for Her Return
Dion's concerts will take place at a stadium in Nanterre, a suburb of Paris, and were announced on her 58th birthday last March.
Her return has already generated worldwide interest, with fans traveling from many countries to see her perform live again.
Since her arrival in the French capital for final preparations, crowds of fans have gathered outside the hotel where she is staying, singing her biggest hits. At times, Dion herself has come out to join in these spontaneous moments with her audience.
Cristina Piergentili, 38, who traveled from Italy hoping to meet her favorite singer, said Dion had made her dream her whole life and that she wanted to thank her.
A City Decorated for a Legend
Dion has often spoken about her love for France. Arriving in the country on 28 August, she said France was her second home.
Paris has prepared for her return. A metro station near the stadium has been decorated with lyrics from her songs, and a pop-up shop selling souvenirs has opened inside the Galeries Lafayette department store. The city of Paris is also organizing a large karaoke night, with thousands of fans expected to sing her hits.
Fans Call Her a Fighter

Aurelie Chabrol, 42, waiting outside the singer's hotel, called Dion the best and her idol. She said Dion was a fighter who had proven it to everyone, and that her return was magical.
