Natalie Barr cringes at her shocking haircut in 1997 Matty Johns interview

Sunrise host Natalie Barr laughed at an embarrassing 25-year-old interview that was repeated on Channel Seven’s breakfast show on Tuesday.

Barr, now 54, had a memorable conversation with NRL champion Matthew Johns after his Newcastle Knights team won their premiere in 1997.

Johns’ brother and teammate Andrew struggled to keep his face straight as he tried to ask questions as he walked shirtless in the background.

After telling the audience that the Knights celebrations should continue for another week, Barr asked Johns how he felt about coming home after Newcastle’s win.

A startled Johns said after a pause: “Well, uh… it was better than Lego”.

Johns was clearly pleased with his reaction, laughing and repeating the phrase “better than Lego” over and over before shouting into the camera.

Returning to the studio on Tuesday, Barr buried his face in his hands in embarrassment as he watched the throwback clip.

Host David “Kochie” Koch introduced the segment, explaining that Johns’ voice “better than Lego” has since become an iconic catchphrase.

After listening to the interview, Koch announced that Australian swimwear company Budgy Smuggler is launching the “Better Than…” clothing brand.

Koch smiled as Barr tried on one of the new fisherman hats and lifted one of the leather-wrapped swimsuits with Johns face forward.

Koch said he asked Budgy Smuggler founder Adam Linforth why Barr’s face wasn’t on the new sales line.

“The back wasn’t big enough,” Mr Linforth apparently said.

Matthew Johns and his wife Patricia were spotted on the red carpet in August 2007.

Entertainment journalist Edwina Bartholomew interrupted Koch: “It doesn’t matter where” [you were to put Barr’s face]it would be inappropriate.

Barr later revealed during Johns’ 1997 interview that he partyed all night.

“I won’t even tell you what John’s other brother is” [Andrew] he shouted in the background. “It had something to do with my last name.”
