The actress stars as “an emotionally abused woman” in the new courtroom drama The Twelve, and this week she tells Zodiac Magazine that the role allows her to “gain a sense of belonging and power” over domestic violence.

“I chose not to talk about the complexity of my personal experience because that doesn’t necessarily serve the conversation,” he added.
Brooke said abusive relationships can be nuanced and “problematic” for everyone involved.
“I think anyone who’s been in a situation of domestic violence or coercive control knows that,” she said.

The former Neighbors star has struggled with turbulent relationships in her own life.

Prosecutors pleaded guilty to joint assault after dropping three other serious charges, including assault with actual bodily harm and stalking and intimidating Brooke. The sentence was later overturned by the court.
In 2010, Matthew’s then-girlfriend, Rachael Taylor, filed a protection order against him for physical, verbal, and emotional abuse and went to the Northside West Clinic in Sydney for treatment.

He was also arrested twice in Miami, Florida in 2012, the first for trespassing and resisting police, and the second for resisting beating and arrest after assaulting a hotel receptionist.
After the indictment, Matthew went to the Betty Ford Center in California for 90 days of alcohol and drug treatment.
Both cases were later closed on the condition that Matthew completes community service and writes a letter of apology to the hotel employee.
