In the movie, Tom plays Colonel Tom Parker, famous for defrauding the music icon to get his fair share of royalties on Elvis’ songs.
However, the actor feels that his alter ego should be recognized for his role in making Elvis a megastar.
Hanks said, “I’ve heard from a lot of people that he’s a cute kid, he lights up every room. Was he a cheap swindler playing fast and for money? Yes, (but) he brought joy to everything he did. With a little stealing.
“Base said there was no Elvis without Colonel Tom Parker, it was a completely symbiotic relationship.
“You have to reassure and see the fact that the number of ways Colonel Parker is defrauding people for money and cents is extraordinary.”
Luhrmann’s film follows Elvis from the poverty of his childhood to his rise as a global superstar before his untimely death at the age of 42 in 1977, and the director wants audiences to have an immersive experience watching the film.
Red Moulin! The director said: “I want audiences who don’t care about Elvis to feel what it’s like to be there (when he first takes the stage). He was the original punk rocker”.
