TV series based on real events are becoming increasingly popular. They immerse the viewer in the most dramatic moments in history and tell about the fate of people who found themselves at the epicenter of tragedies, scandals or great achievements – of course, not without a touch of artistic fiction.
From the horrific consequences of the Chernobyl disaster to the intrigues of the British monarchy in The Crown – we decided to remember these and other series today. In our selection we have collected 10 impressive projects that take viewers to different eras and countries.
One of the highest-rated series in our selection is “Mindhunter.” On Kinopoisk, viewers gave it an 8.1, placing it at 144th place in the top 250. And on Rotten Tomatoes, the Netflix original project has an overall near-perfect rating: 97% from critics and 95% from viewers.
The characters of Holden Ford and Bill Tench are based on profiling pioneers John Douglas and Robert Ressler, and some of the interview scenes with maniacs are based on actual interviews; in addition, many repeat them word for word.
At the same time, you should definitely not expect action and plot twists from ‘Mindhunter’: this is after all a David Fincher project with everything that entails. The series is much more focused on the psychology of criminals, and therefore the story even seems long-drawn and monotonous. But this should certainly not scare off Fincher fans.
