Even the sternest spectators will cry here.
Did you think “Hachiko” was really the saddest film in history? Whatever it is. Of course, the story of the dog, who faithfully waits for his master at the train station, is truly legendary – and it is unlikely that there will come a day when we will not shed a tear when we watch it again.
However, there are far more poignant films that will make anyone cry – even if that ‘someone’ only shrugs at ‘Hachiko’ or the same ‘Titanic’. We have collected twelve films with truly heartbreaking endings, which will definitely make you need some time to recover after the credits roll.
One of the most little-known films in Russia, which we mentioned in our selection, is “Glorious Future”. The film was released in 1997 – just when the saddest film for the domestic (and world) audience was rightly “Titanic”, which had just come from the pen of James Cameron. It is not surprising that few people in Russia noticed “A Glorious Future”, a story about a much smaller (and not real) catastrophe.
Nevertheless, this story certainly strikes a chord – not only because the victims of the tragedy are the smallest and most innocent, but also thanks to the masterful work of the director and actors. Many fans note the similarity of the atmosphere of the film with Bergman’s work, in particular with “Autumn Sonata”. At the same time, the film is not sentimental – therefore, those who are outraged by snotty stories certainly have nothing to fear.
If you’re ready to indulge your soul a little, why not organize a melancholic movie marathon for yourself?
