The author did not like the adaptation of his book.
Let’s face it, the second season of House of the Dragon turned out to be much worse than the first. Showrunner Ryan Condal deviated significantly from George R. R. Martin’s original script, changing several storylines and removing several key characters from the story.
Fans are outraged by the weak plot and the clumsy story and are already calling for HBO to fire Condal as showrunner. The sixth episode of the second season only received 6.2 points, and the last episode only got a rating 6.4 points – terrible ratings for a spin-off of one of the best series in history.
And it seems that fans aren’t the only ones unhappy with Condal. Martin himself recently shared his thoughts on the second season of House of the Dragon on his website Not A Blog.
Martin didn’t explain why Condal irritated him so much, but promised to release a separate post in the near future with all the downsides of the second season.
“I’ve had a pretty bad year, full of stress, anger, conflicts and defeats. I don’t feel like writing all these messages. However, I will tell you everything that went wrong with House of the Dragon. I don’t want to do this, but I have to,” Martin said.
Given that Martin is the producer of House of the Dragon, Condal will obviously have a hard time if the writer posts his negative criticism of the second season.
Despite widespread dissatisfaction with House of the Dragon’s second season, HBO has already renewed the series for a third and fourth installment. The showrunner may be replaced, but the series itself will continue to air for at least a few more years.
