Production has been delayed.
As House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal announced, filming for the third season won’t begin until “early 2025.”
This milestone made it possible to calculate when the long-awaited premiere would take place, and the result was disappointing.
The fact is that the first season ended in October 2022, and the filming process for the next one began in April 2023. As a result, viewers saw the continuation 14 months later – in June 2024.
If we take the given time period as a basis, we get the following.
When the creators begin development in February 2025, new episodes will be released no earlier than April 2026. When the actors return to the set in the spring, it will be two years before the Blacks and Greens collide on screen again.
Interestingly, this did not happen with Game of Thrones. The release schedule looked like this:
Season 1 | April 17, 2011 |
Season 2 | April 1, 2012 |
Season 3 | March 31, 2013 |
Season 4 | April 6, 2014 |
Season 5 | April 12, 2015 |
Season 6 | April 24, 2016 |
Season 7 | July 16, 2017 |
Season 8 | April 14, 2019 |
Just before the finale, HBO and the film crew had to take a two-year break (partly because of Kit Harington’s wedding). With fewer episodes, House of the Dragon is delayed, which is just ridiculous.
Perhaps at this point only “Bear” is keeping to the tradition of returning exactly one year later.
Hollywood production is slowing down as costs rise and deadlines are continually stretched. Almost all TV series are released at intervals of 18-24 months, or even more.
Unfortunately, this also applies to high-budget projects.
