Fan hysteria has even reached this country.

Many viewers were sure that “The Magnificent Century” was worshiped only in Turkey and Russia. However, it turned out that the plot was inspired even in the Land of the Rising Sun. True, in the manner typical of the inhabitants of Japan, they did everything in their own way, so much in their own way that it turned upside down.

We are talking about Ooku. What is “Ooku”, and how does the project differ from the canonical “Magnificent Century”? First of all, Ooku is an anime. In general, it will probably be easier to talk about the similarities than the differences between the two series, Turkish and Japanese.

Both stories are about life in a harem during a certain historical period. And then the differences begin. If “The Magnificent Century” is a series that is close to the historical reality of the heyday of the Ottoman Empire. That “Ooku” is an anime about an alternative view of historical events. What is the plot about?

Japan is swept by an outbreak of a hitherto unknown variant of smallpox. The disease is terrible and deadly. But there is a nuance. Only men suffer from smallpox. Women are spared the disease. And then the fair sex must refute the established centuries-old historical paradigm. They take power into their own hands.

The remaining males are kept as the apple of their eye, so that they have someone to continue the family with. This creates a harem of male concubines in the palace. Overall, the anime is definitely worth watching, if only for its very non-trivial plot and beautiful pictures.

However, we must warn you: this series is still quite specific, filled with the culture and flavor of Japan, so many things may be incomprehensible and even unpleasant for the Russian viewer while watching. So whether you want to waste your time or not is obviously up to you.
