Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman return to the world of Baz Luhrmann’s Australia, but in a completely new form.
Downs, 55, was released on Thursday.
The new miniseries is based on footage from Luhrmann’s 2008 epic Australia, but the filmmaker has now expanded on that film thanks to the extensive footage left on the cutting room floor before the final product was cut to 165 minutes.
The miniseries follows Lady Sarah Ashley (Kidman) as she travels to Australia to sell a cattle ranch hidden offshore called Faraway Downs.
The English woman’s journey begins inauspiciously when her unfaithful husband, whom she hopes to confront, is murdered before she even reaches the farm.

The trailer opens with Lady Ashley’s plane ride from England to Australia, before she confesses that her husband died en route.
She is seen in a montage as she arrives Down Under, where she stands out in her expensive clothes that are no match for dust and dirt.
“This place is barren, I can’t understand what he would have seen here,” she says of her late husband.
Then Jackman makes his big appearance as a rancher known as The Drover. It is depicted in close-up with a mountain in the distance, with a picture of majestic horses running in a herd.
“Welcome to Australia,” he said gruffly but charmingly. “It should be interesting.”
The driver will first take her to her husband, and then he will help her drive the cattle.
Lady Ashley loves to explore the countryside with him and she wears a top hat, white veil and glasses.
“It’s all a foreign adventure, isn’t it?” she said excitedly.
“I’m not saying that applies to everyone,” he replied.

Lady Ashley then becomes fascinated by a little boy named Nullah. She discovers him in her house late at night when she wakes up from her sleep.
He is the child of an Aboriginal mother and a white father. The manager reminds Lady Ashley that Nullah is “alone,” but she tells him that she’s “not good with children.”
Nullah grabbed Lady Ashley almost immediately. Over a shot of her on a horse, he says in a voiceover: “When you first come to this country, you look, but you don’t see. Now you open your eyes for the first time. “
Then Lady Ashley says, “I will bring Faraway Downs back to life.”
She then asks Nullah to help her, to which he agrees.

He received a tip about the “half-blood Aboriginal child” and wants to capture him and place him in an orphanage run by the church, where he will likely be abused and cut off from his culture.
