Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield reunite this morning A MONTH … after their fight with Shingles and his time off during his brother Tim’s sexual assault trial

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield reunited on This Morning for the first time in over a month.

On Monday, after a painful bout of shingles, Holly, 42, finally returned to the famous bank with Phillip, 61.

At the opening this morning, Holly reassured viewers that she was well again, saying: “Yes, I’m much better.” I’ve had a shaky week and a half. For anyone who has had shingles, it is not fun. But I am fully recovered and back. Good to see you!’

Holly was expected to welcome him back to the ITV daytime show last week after he took time off during his brother Tim’s sexual assault trial.

However, her sick leave meant she missed her co-star’s first week after his three-week hiatus due to his brother’s beliefs.

Previously, Lorraine previewed what was to come on This Morning and Lorraine addressed Holly and Phil at the end of their morning show, where the co-presenters gave a quick glimpse of what they have in store for viewers.

And just minutes before her return from This Morning, Holly took to Instagram, telling her fans: “Aww I’ve missed you!!!!” as she shows off her classy look for the show.

The blonde presenter looked sensational in a stunning green midi dress by Ro&Zo teamed with a pair of brown suede stiletto heels.

Holly wrote alongside: “Tomorrow Monday…aww I’ve missed you!!!!! See you on the @thismorning sofa at 10am…we have The Rules co-writer on the show today! #hwstyle rok by @ro_and_zo.

The co-presenters finally got back on screen together on Monday morning after it was revealed that Phillip Schofield’s career was in doubt.

The Mail on Sunday revealed there was a behind-the-scenes battle raging over the future of the show – specifically whether there should be a shake-up of the presenter’s staff.

Some believe it is time for Phillip to take a step back after more than two decades of hosting the show after he noticed that some of the million plus viewers had apparently grown tired of him.

And as part of their strategy to listen to their audience, ITV chefs are monitoring social media to see how fans are reacting to their stars.

Not only is there a lot of negativity surrounding Phillip, but there are also petitions on the internet asking the channel to get rid of him.

Her views have been boosted by the success of Alison Hammond (42), who was dubbed by some the ‘savior of This Morning’ after she was promoted from show business interviewer to main presenter 15 months ago.

This sparked an idea in the minds of the ITV chefs – to bring some ‘girl power’ to the show.

A source said: “It’s a case of both things colliding. Fans say they are over Phil and love Alison.”

There is no denying that Phillip has his loyalists on the channel – most of them in the upper echelons. He is also signed to the powerful YMU talent agency, which is said to have significant power over ITV.

This Morning’s editor, Martin Frizell, is perhaps one of his staunchest supporters and is said to have taken “multiple bullets” for Phillip in recent years.

But Alison continues to grow more powerful as other channels try to steal her.

Last month she was revealed as the new presenter of The Great British Bake Off, something that ‘dazzled’ ITV chefs.

Holly is also said to ‘worship’ Alison as ITV bosses flock to show her love – although some once dismissed her as the bubbly showbiz girl.

If Phillip leaves, “Holly and Phil,” one of television’s most famous collaborations, would come to an end — or “Phil and Holly,” whichever he prefers.

Some ITV staff were – perhaps unfairly – skeptical of Holly’s illness last week, which they said was ‘perfect timing’ for her not to sit next to Phillip, as he thanked fans for their support during his painful ordeal with his brother thank.

However, sources close to Holly insist that she was struggling to shake off the illness until last Friday.

She has since developed a close friendship with Alison. Not only was she at her birthday party last month (Phillip was notably absent), she also introduced Alison to her “girl gang”, which includes former Spice Girl Emma Bunton.

Another issue facing This Morning bosses is the loss of Josie Gibson, 38, the hugely popular former Big Brother star, who serves as a back-up presenter and usually works alongside Craig Doyle.

It is clear that she is frustrated at not getting enough air time and is considering her options elsewhere.

Some of the show’s staff also questioned why Alison didn’t fill in for Holly when she was sick.

Last month, when Phillip split while his brother Timothy was at court, Alison joined Holly for two days in what ITV bosses hailed as a “massive triumph”.

Instead, Phillip was flanked last week by Rochelle Humes, 34, the singer-turned-presenter who he claims covered for Holly.

He is believed to favor Rochelle, perhaps viewing her as more malleable, in contrast to his other outspoken female television partners, including Fern Britton and Amanda Holden.

And maybe Alison. Because maybe the truth is, there’s no place on the This Morning bench for either Alison or Phil – or even for Phil and Alison.
