MasterChef Insider reveals what really happens to all the cooked food on the long-running reality series

A MasterChef insider revealed that contestants and show staff are often given doggy bags after a cooking challenge.

Dog bags are common after her signature high-pressure cooking sessions on the show, according to a report in Tuesday’s Now to Love.

Judges take a bite, contestants snack, and what’s left is encouraged to take home and eat.

Speaking to the publication Stuff recently, judge Melissa Leong said she often only takes a bite out of the dishes on offer.

“Sometimes when something is particularly delicious, it’s really hard not to come back for a second, third or fourth bite,” she confessed.

“But part of the job is self-control.”

Melissa added that she often doesn’t have to eat lunch or dinner during judging days since she spends most of the time eating in front of the camera.

It comes amid news that Jamie Oliver will be a guest judge on the show’s new season, which starts on May 1.

“I’m delighted to be back in the MasterChef Australia kitchen and honored to open the new season of Secrets & Surprises with Jock, Andy and Mel,” Jamie said in a statement.

He added: “I want to give the contestants some advice, some techniques and above all some thoughts to help them navigate some of the big moments ahead.”

In a hilarious teaser clip of his upcoming appearance on the show, Jamie is introduced to the contestants, who erupt in cheers and applause for the superstar chef as he walks onto the set.

“I can’t stop shaking!” said one participant.

“Even I’m shaking,” adds Jamie.

It features Jamie in his chef talking about one of his favorite dishes during a challenge.

“This is a dish that changed my life,” he says as one participant begins to cry.

“Don’t start or you’ll get me started!” he says.
