Real sports with Bryant Gumbel has collected three dozen Sports Emmys over its 29 seasons, and now the host is getting the career treatment. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today that Bryant Gumbel will receive the 2023 Sports Emmys Lifetime Achievement.
He will be honored at the 44th Annual Sports Emmy Awards ceremony on May 22 at the Rose Hall in New York.
“Bryant has had an eventful career, from his early days as a sports producer in Los Angeles through five decades of celebrated work – all of which have cemented him as an icon and trailblazer in sports and entertainment,” said Adam Sharp, president and CEO of Natas. “Bryant’s incredible resume is enough Real sports with Bryant GumbelNBC Sports, NBC News, CBS News, PBS, and many other projects have brought dramatic and human news and sports stories to life for audiences throughout his career, making him a clear front-runner for this award.
Gumbel hosted the Peabody Award winner real sport with HBO since 1995 and after more than a quarter of a century in the field of news and sports on the net to premium cable. He covered football, basketball and baseball for NBC for seven years before hosting the network’s venerable morning show Today. He held that position for 15 years, longer than anyone else.
He then moved to CBS News, where he hosted his own prime-time show. Publicas well as the morning news program of the Internet The early performancebefore leaving in 2002. He began his television career in 1972 as a sports reporter for KNBC Los Angeles.
