Jeremy Renner was trying to save his nephew from being hit by a snowplow when he ran over him.

An act of heroism led to by Jeremy Renner Hospitalization on New Year’s Day. New details about the snowplow accident that landed the actor in the hospital were revealed in the sheriff’s office accident report, obtained by Cnn. The report reveals that Jeremy was trying to save his nephew from being crushed by the snow plow when he “was pulled under the vehicle across the track and ran over.”

Jeremy was using the Pistenbully snow blower to try to pull his nephew’s truck out of the snow when the accident occurred, according to the report. He told authorities he was able to get the truck out on the road when the plow started to “slip sideways” and “go down the hill”. He exited the vehicle “without setting the parking brake,” said the report, written after Jeremy spoke to investigators on Jan. 5.

“As soon as he got off the Pistenbully, he realized he was heading straight for (his nephew),” the report continues. “He was afraid the Pistenbully would hit (his he nephew of his), so he decided to try to stop or deflect the Pistenbully”. When he tried to climb onto the plow cab, Jeremy had to step on the moving rail and was “immediately pulled off,” according to the accident report.

“Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical problems, it is believed, based on our mechanical inspection, that the parking brake would prevent the Pistenbully from moving forward,” the report states. “When Renner tried to avoid injury (his nephew), he was dragged under the vehicle across the track and hit. However, the report also confirmed that “mechanical issues may have been a factor”.

Jeremy was airlifted to hospital after the horrific crash. He was in the hospital for two weeks before going home. However, his road to recovery has only just begun. In a Jan. 21 Instagram update, Jeremy revealed he broke 30 bones in the crash. “Morning workouts, resolutions changed this particular New Years…” he wrote. “He was born out of tragedy for my entire family and quickly focused on bringing actionable love together.”

The scene of the accident looked quite heartbreaking, as revealed by a neighbor in the 911 call following the accident. “We just need someone here right away with life-saving techniques,” the neighbor told the operators. “It was crushed under it, yes. There’s a lot of blood in here, so you need to call someone right away.
