Daisy Lowe reveals she ‘got off to a rough start’ with Gavin Rossdale after learning he was her father

Daisy Lowe admitted that although she and her biological father, Gavin Rossdale, are now in a great relationship, they have a “really rough start”.

The 33-year-old model was 15 when she learned that Bronner Handwerger was not her father after a paternity test revealed that Gavin was her godfather.

Daisy, whose mother is Pearl Lowe, said she didn’t have a “textbook” to understand “your godfather is your father” and that she had a rough start with Gavin, 56, but now has a good relationship.

Speaking on the Die Gaby Roslin podcast Monday, “It was busy. There are no guidelines for finding out if your goddaughter is really your daughter or your godfather is your father.

“I think we handled it in the best way possible. It meant we got off to a really tough start, but we did, and I’m so grateful we figured out how and when we did it.

Daisy said it “makes a lot of sense” when she finds out that she and Gavin “share the same paths” and that he is her biological father.

He explained: “The funny thing is, the moment I found out that he might be my father, I thought, ‘Oh, that makes so much sense.’ We think alike, and we have such terrifying similarities.

“And the man I thought was my father, I didn’t really know, and when I met him, I went home and said to my mother, ‘I don’t feel any connection to this man.

“But I didn’t doubt it, because when I was younger I was like, ‘So there’s anyone else who could be my parents?’ It just isn’t something that comes to mind for anyone.”

Daisy said she stayed in touch with her children, whom she shared with Gavin and ex-wife Gwen Stefani: Kingston, 15, Zuma, 13, and Apollo, eight.

She added that she calls her three stepbrothers, who live in Los Angeles, at least once a week, and that Kingston is the same age as her half-sister, Betty Goffey, whose mother is Pearl.

She said: “I’ve been a full-time model for ten years and throughout my career I’ve always been very aware of wanting to compete with real curvy women’s bodies.

“And when you feel that you’re round, even though I was eight or six at the time, it’s ridiculous in retrospect and compared to all those very thin models I feel like an elephant – beautiful, beautiful in its own way -.”

Daisy said she loved her look on Strictly Come Dancing in 2016, as it was the first time in her career that she’d been told her body was “fine”.
