Michelle Heaton celebrates a year of sobriety by admitting I’ve given up on life

Michelle Heaton celebrates a year of sobriety as she talks about her low point during her five-year battle with alcohol.

The 42-year-old Liberty X singer admitted to “giving up on life” before undergoing rehab treatment last year.

Speaking to Poet Magazine, the mother-of-two said the worst of her alcoholism was the one she experienced with her husband Hugh Hanley and their two children, Faith, 10 and AJ, eight.

“I had given up on life,” she told the magazine, “I woke up in the morning when I was at my worst and prayed for someone to help me or I just wanted to die.”

“I didn’t care if I lost my family or friends, it just mattered where the next drink came from. My skin was gray, I was exhausted, and my body was completely unrecognizable and swollen.

He added that the rehabilitation period at the monastery “saved my life”. After the examination at the treatment center, the doctor said, “I could have died in a few days if I had not received help.”

Michelle said she was working hard on her relationship with her husband Hugh, saying: “Now I’m completely honest with Hugh and he feels like he got his wife back.”

“He forgave me and we’re best friends again… and best friends in the bedroom too!”

Michelle had previously revealed that she had not had an alcohol-free day for three years before heading off to rehab in April 2021.

While performing with Loose Women in September, Michelle admitted that the hardest part of her journey was getting help.

He explained that it wasn’t “a specific event” that brought him to rehab, but that he “was imprisoned alone, lied and manipulated situations.”

Michelle explained: “I got really sick, it was a five-year period. He made fun of me for about three years, I was happy with my addiction.’

“Sometimes it’s hard to say you have an addiction because sometimes it’s cool, that’s the truth, it is [alcohol] He was my needy friend.

Every emotion, sad, happy, the sun is shining, a party – every excuse. It impressed me a lot.’

His famous friends, including his close friend Katie Price, went to rehab at The Priory in May last year. He operated on and paid for them to be treated.
